It’s 2026, and it’s the era of endless options. If you are a large company, then you must be using a paid subscription tool to track your on-page processes, content planning, and performance tracking.

As SEO experts, we favour the use of paid subscriptions, but that does not mean we discard the tools that can be used for free. A common misconception is: “Free means bad.”

This is a myth, as we have used free tools for our small and medium-sized clients to scale up their growth. This digital copy is designed to help you discover free SEO backlink tools that provide practical insights and drive organic growth.

1. Google Search Console

SEO testing believes that Google Search Console can be a game-changer when used correctly. It can be used as one of the best free backlink checkers, and we second that. When you open Google Search Console, it shows you two things: how pages are interlinked with each other and how other websites are linking back to your site.

In theory, it is believed that the more links that point back to your site, the more authority your site has. In order to do this, just open your Search Console and, on the toolbar, click on the link, and you will go to the top link report page. Take a look at this screenshot to understand better.

2. Ahrefs

Using this backlink checker is fairly simple; just type in the domain of any website in Ahref and check the results. For example, if you type in Fastlinky(our website), you would get something like this. This screenshot quickly shows you a picture of how many backlinks are there on your site. In addition, Ahrefs itself reports that its databases are refreshed every 15 minutes, and it is one of the favourites for SEO professionals next to Google.

The only limitation we found here is the 20-backlink limit, which is not enough to spot a pattern. There is no filtering system available, like a nofollow or dofollow column, and no history.

3. Ubersuggest

This is another free backlink checker that SEO professionals use all the time. It has an easy learning curve and gives you backlinks. Just head over to the tool and type in the domain that you want a backlink for, and it should show you something like this.

Ubersuggest

According to DEV, they have been using this tool for ages, and they provide insights such as referring domains, domain authority, and total backlinks. Provides one check per day in the free version, and the only limitation is one search per day, so if you want to check multiple websites, then you need to upgrade to the paid plan

4. SEO Review Tool

Tell us which backlink tool shows 100 backlinks per search? There can be none, as this one is the only tool that fits the criteria. No account creation is required; you get a preview of domain authority, external backlinks, and referring domains. In addition, there are tabs for the most popular anchor text. There is a cap of 100 links, and beyond that you cannot export it. The data found is also not real-time.

5. SEObility

One of the favourite features of this tool is link rating. When you check a domain in this tool, you will see the percentage score, which many free tools don’t bother calculating.  If you examine a site that has a high backlink profile, then you can go up to 600 backlinks before hitting the ceiling.  In addition, the application performs three checks without any account and then renews at $5o for a month.

6. Moz Link Explorer

Moz may be underrated when it comes to link building, but it is the only tool that shows your results over time rather than giving you a snapshot. In the free version, you get 10 searches a month, information on domain and page authority, and a five-page report.  Helpful for small businesses that are doing frequent searches, but the paid version comes at $99 per month.

7. Semrush

This tool has an enormous database ( 43 trillion, which is refreshed hourly); the free version only provides a glimpse of it.  When you use the tool, it provides an authority score, dofollow backlink percentage, and referring domains. The limit is three checks per day. The paid version goes live for $199.25 per month.

Which one would be best for you?

To be honest, it depends on your usage. If you are a small business, then we think a 100-link cap would be enough for you, and tools like Ubersuggest and SEO review tools can easily cover you. If you are a business that does deep backlink searches, then we would suggest that MOZ  and SEO review tools can be a game changer.

If you are someone who is not a fan of creating accounts and then looking at the report, we believe that Ubersuggest, SEO review tools, and Semrush will fit you just fine. Now, if you are into deep research and want to know when a website loses or gains links, then the MoZ free tracking tool would suit you just fine.

Final Take

None of the “ Free Backlink Tools Every SEO Should Use in 2026 “ we have mentioned here would replace a deep-dive SEO audit. They are not trying to. They are just here to make sure that you have a sanity check before you agree to a link placement.
